I wasn’t looking to fall in love with some 70+mile waterbody. But here we are.

how do we take care of our precious River? We love where we live and work, right? This Watershed is our home, and we need to do all we can to safeguard our health and the health of the environment upon which we depend and cherish. It can feel so daunting. But we can’t give up just because it’s hard. But we also don’t have to do it all alone. We can each attend to our precious place in the Watershed – that’s where we each start from.

While we may not get emotional about data: E.coli. Temperature. DNA. Benthic macroinvertebrates. Chemical profiling. And eyes may tire of trying to infer meaning from all the numbers. The riverine critters tell us that water is clean enough to live in. Yet, many of us still worry about Brook Trout when the water temp hits 20C/68F and they feel stressed. Many of us fret over what microplastics and PFAS are doing inside our bodies. We know that the numbers help give us a more complete picture of what’s going on in the Hoosic but it is hanging out with the River that tugs at our heart strings.

So HooRWA keeps monitoring the River. We keep signing on to petitions to protect waterways across our 3-state Watershed (and the country). We keep sending the data we collect to local, state, and federal officials alerting them to our concerns. We keep seeking to get a more complete picture of the Watershed’s needs. And we keep letting you know the stats as soon we know.

Each of you has your own personal reason for financially supporting HooRWA’s work. And we appreciate that! In whatever ways you give, we know it’s from the heart and it’s because you care about the Hoosic and your special place in the Watershed. Because the goal remains the same: All of us enjoying a healthy Hoosic River each in our own way.
